Utility Alliance staff get trained on how to use new life-saving equipment based on the Marina

UTILITY Alliance is delighted to have taken delivery of a potentially life saving piece of equipment at it’s Hartlepool marina headquarters.

The company has several fully trained first aiders within its workforce, and the introduction of a defibrillator at the front of the Tranquility House building is the latest in a long line of initiatives aimed at making Utility Alliance a safer place to work.

To coincide with the arrival of the defibrillator, Utility Alliance invited trainer Gerry Heighton from St John Ambulance into the office to carry out a training session which gave staff members the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the equipment.

Staff were shown how to spot the signs of a sudden cardiac arrest, and then trained on how to put the defibrillator into use.

Gerry Heighton said: “It was good to be able to come to Utility Alliance and show the staff how to use the equipment.

“I would encourage every business to invest in this piece of kit, it doesn’t matter on the age of the employees in the business, it could be needed at any time.

“It is a simple device to use, and I know exactly how it works as three people who I have personally trained in the last 18 months have contacted me to say they have used it to save lives in their workplace.”

The defibrillator is also available for public use out of Utility Alliance’s standard working hours. Details of how to access the equipment are printed on the casing of the defibrillator and instructions are included inside.
