ONE of the UK’s most promising boxing stars has signed a sponsorship agreement with Utility Alliance.
Sheffield-based Shakiel Thompson has put pen to paper on a 12-month agreement with the energy consultancy, which has a base in the Tinsley area of the city.
Thompson, nicknamed Doctor Steel because of his Sheffield roots, turned professional in 2018 and has an impressive record of five wins from five fights – including three knockouts.
The 22-year-old middleweight is delighted to have secured the sponsorship from UA and says it will make a huge difference to his career as he plots his way to the top under the watchful eye of Frank Warren.
He said: “This is massively helpful to me and I can’t thank Dan Potter and the team at Sheffield enough for their support.
“This deal is the difference between me being able to train full time or finding a part-time job to enable me to support myself between training sessions.
“I can now completely dedicate myself to training, resting, making sure I’m in the right place at the right time to eat the right things, that type of thing.
“I have ambitions to reach the very top, there are lots of big fights and big titles out there and I’ll be doing everything I can to get them over the course of 2020.”
